Description:
An incredible opportunity to pass on what you know for the benefit of future generations and to learn from the local population about their culture and history. ISAC has designed a program to benefit the children of the rural area of Pen and created an excellent learning opportunity for the visiting volunteers. Live and work in a small village teaching English and Math in schools. Volunteers are placed in local schools from kindergarten to high schools, rural tribal schools and also with special needs children in the area. This program offers volunteers to make a difference in the life of children from poor and rural communities and nearby tribal villages.
Highlights:
Volunteers can make a difference by offering their skills to teach rural children. They could: - Teach and interact with children in a school for mentally challenged kids. - Teach in local schools in Pen; from kindergarten to high schools - Volunteer in local orphanages. - Get involved in teaching programs in surrounding tribal villages. - Work on the child sponsorship project, visiting different villages and talking to parents and children accompanied by a local social worker.
Qualifications:
No prior teaching experience or other training required. This program is open to all levels of students and professionals who want to volunteer and learn about India. Participants must be over 18 years of age easygoing and flexible. They must enjoy working with children and be able to live in the mountains. Volunteers must be open minded, willing to take initiative to contribute and learn from their environment and be respectful to their surroundings.

Cost Include Description:
Costs include pre-departure orientation and support, airport pickup, overnight stay in Mumbai, transport to Pen, work support and monitoring, 24 hours emergency support, personal cellular phone.Orientation-Accommodation-Communication: ISAC representative will meet you on arrival at Mumbai Airport. From here, you will be transported to a guesthouse for overnight stay. ISAC will arrange all intercity transportation, accommodations, meals and provide orientation on issues around diet, safety, transport, currency conversion, communication, travel, norms and culture. Our coordinators will hold weekly meetings to monitor and evaluate the program and will provide 24-hour emergency support. Accommodation: (Shared basis) Accomodation on sharing basis in volunteer guest house at Pen. Please note that the accommodation does not include facilities like air conditioning and Internet. The food provided in the program is traditional Indian vegetarian cuisine. Communication: You will be assigned a mobile phone (with free unlimited incoming calls) for the duration of your stay. All-important phone numbers will be pre-programmed along with a limited amount of airtime for emergencies. To make calls over and above the airtime included, you can purchase pre-paid phone cards locally.
