Description:
Be part of it with i-to-i! Our goal is to achieve 400yrs of combined volunteering all over the world by the end of 2008. So far we have achieved 325yrs which when broken down means we achieved the following: - Over 5500 children cared for on our community projects around the world - A minimum of 13,000 children and adults taught English in schools and community centres - Hundreds of animals protected including Turtles, Pandas, Elephants, Monkeys and more - At least 80 homes and structures built for families and communities in need - More than 8000 trees planted which are enough trees to offset the CO2 emissions of over 2,000 cars Want to improve your teaching skills? Don't worry it's not you who has to be bi-lingual! With half the curriculum being conducted in English, native English speakers are in great demand. The school has recently won an international award for excellence in education so it's the perfect place to try out all those skills you've learnt on the TEFL certification, which we offer free when you volunteer. If you manage to wrestle your way free from the children who by now will have you coaching them soccer and rugby in your spare time you can explore the wonderful city of Buenos Aires. As the spiritual home of the tango the whole city moves to its rhythm and you can't help but get caught up. An unforgettable place. Highlights:
What were the highlights of your trip that you couldn't wait to tell your friends about? "It's very difficult for me to pick out "highlights" as the whole trip was an amazing opportunity to be invited to become part of the school community and to feel so welcomed. Most of the young people I worked with were eager to practise their English and ask about life in the UK, with football, films, music, fashion and books being the main topics of interest, however some were also interested in our views on the Falklands War, especially as this year was the 25th anniversary of the conflict. Finding our way (I travelled with a friend) around the city, using the buses and "Subte" (underground) and occasional cab, we saw as much as we could cram in on our days off, too much to recall here but one special evening we spent eating out with other volunteers and then going to a Milonga attended by mostly locals, we just sat and watched in wonder as the whole place just heaved with the Argentine Tango, most of the couples were fairly young and looked stunning, they were still going strong and people arriving when we left at 2.30 am (we were at school next day!). The noise, the architecture, the colours, the style, the friendliness of the people, the whole atmosphere, even the notoriously uneven pavements made it an unforgettable four weeks. Oh yes-great shoes!" (Julie Philbrook) If you want to be excited by travel ... if you want to see a side of the world that package tourists can only dream of ... if you want to make a difference to the world we live in, and get in touch with humanity, nature, and the earth ... if you want to join the fight against mindless holidays and save some hard-earned cash, come travel and volunteer with us!
