Description:
The Chilean Ministry of Education and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have designed a program to create new opportunities for both Chilean students and teachers to practice English with native English speakers. Participants will work in the Chilean public school system, where they will be assigned to work with a Chilean teacher of English to teach a class of about 25 students for 45-minute periods. Participants can expect to have approximately 25 hours of class time and work an additional 10 hours on lesson plans and extracurricular activities per week. Extracurricular activities may include developing English conversation groups, dance classes, art projects, English fairs, and encouraging school participation in the community. Participants may also work with interested teachers to develop their oral proficiency and/or to design materials or activities for use in English classrooms.

Accommodations: While on the program, participants will live with a local Chilean family. The family provides participants not only with a nice home and meals, but also with an invaluable insight into Chilean culture. If participants do not wish to live with a host family, they are welcome to inquire about additional accommodation options. ** Married couples are welcome to join the program. Salary: 85,000 Chilean Pesos (CLP) per month Orientation: Before beginning their teaching assignments, participants will have two weeks of orientation and training, which is split between their arrival orientation in Santiago and additional training in their host town. Orientation training includes a review of the Chilean education system, school visits, learning about Chilean culture, materials for Teaching English as a Foreign Language training (TEFL), and a Spanish language course. The orientation also includes recreational activities and cultural events. During orientation, participants are provided with accommodation, food, and transportation. In country transportation: Participants are provided with round-trip bus transportation from Santiago to their teaching sites. Qualifications:
* Participants must be between the ages of 21 and 50 * Participants must be a native English speaker from a country where English is the official language, or use English in their everyday conversation * Participants must have received their K-12 or undergraduate education in English * Participants must be able to speak basic Spanish * Participants must hold an undergraduate degree or a two-year Associate's Degree from an accredited Community College or University * Participants have preferably had previous experience teaching, working with children, and/or traveling
