Highlights of the CIEE 4-day orientation: * Logistics: How to find an apartment? Where to go if you get sick? CIEE staff will provide detailed information about local transportation, the health care system, finding permanent housing and crucial safety considerations * Teaching English in Chile: What is the role of English in the Chilean educational system? What will your students expect from you as a foreign teacher? What will the classroom dynamic be like? The CIEE orientation addresses these themes and others to contextualize your role as a native English teacher in Chile. * Work Culture in Chile: CIEE will give you an inside view on Chilean norms and values in the workplace, particularly focusing on the educational system. * Me Cachai: Chilean Spanish is known for its particular vocabulary and accent. During the orientation participants will learn how to use the most frequent modismos and where they came from. * Peer Network: Group meals and other cultural activities that will help you become acquainted with other CIEE Teachers. Location Teach in Chile assignments are located in Santiago, Valparaíso, and Viña del Mar. You can request placement at a particular level and preferred location, though placements are driven by the demand for English-speaking teachers and the requirements of each host institution, so CIEE cannot guarantee that all requests will be honored. Qualifications:
You do not need to be a teacher with extensive international experience to apply! If you speak English and Spanish, have a thirst for adventure, and are interested in education - you can immerse yourself in a new culture while you teach. Basic eligibility requirements for the Teach in Chile program include: * Bachelors degree in any major * English as a first language * Citizenship of the U.S. or other English speaking country * Upper intermediate to advanced Spanish language skills * Teaching experience, community involvement, sense of volunteerism, and/or similar experiences preferred * Experience studying, working, or volunteering abroad desirable
