Description: Sponsored by the Chilean Ministry of Education and the United Nations Development Programme-Chile, the English Opens Doors Program seeks native or near-native English speakers to serve as English language teaching assistants in public schools throughout Chile, including Easter Island. The program is designed to compensate for the lack of exposure to native English speakers faced by most students in Chile's public school system.

Volunteers may be assigned to work with one or more grade levels between 5th and 12th grade. Typically, volunteers spend 25 hours a week assisting a Chilean English teacher and teaching in their own English only classroom. They also spend additional 10 hours a week planning classes and leading extra curricular activities.

For 2010, the English Opens Doors program offers two summer programs as well as longer four and six month programs that offer volunteers the opportunity to learn Spanish while having a positive impact within the Chilean public school system.
