Description:
Thailand is a country filled with wonders and beauty. Golden beaches, prowling tigers, ancient cities, amazing culture. But Thailand is more than just that. It is a country looking to learn. The demand for English speaking teachers is great. Visiting teachers are able to teach in Thailand in Primary or Secondary (majority) schools, sometimes with the option of teaching at both levels, depending on the placement. Schools are both urban & rural, in Bangkok, central, eastern Thailand; and some limited placements in northern Thailand. Typically, visiting teachers are in the classroom and help with class planning, presentations, faculty meetings, and help with extra-curricular activities. Teachers who successfully complete an academic year (beginning in May), receive (through the host institution), a free flight home (one way) from Thailand. Download Brochure 1 and Download Brochure 2 (above) are two sample school profiles each visiting teacher receives before departing the U.S.
Highlights:
This is a paid, full time position. Visiting teachers receive minimum salary of 15,000 baht/month ($US410). If participants fulfill a continuous 10-month contract at the same school starting in May, their flight home is free (provided by the school). It is possible, with TEFL Certification, that the salary will be increased to 19,000 to 25,000 baht/month ($US520/$US685). This amount depends on the school, and the location of the school. Legal documentation including a work permit is included. A school assigned coordinator is available to assist with adapting to life/work in Thailand. There is also ongoing in-country emergency support. Visiting teachers have their choice of location and school level. Free furnished accommodation is included in the fee, along with health and travel insurance. A full week of orientation is included. During orientation visiting teachers receive English teacher training, survival Thai language lessons, Thai culture & lifestyle classes, daily living advice, group discussions with former participants, hear special guest speakers, sightseeing in Bangkok, elephant trekking in Kanchanaburi and a rafting trip down the river Kwae.
Qualifications:
Native English speakers only. You do not need to be a qualified teacher in your country to be a visiting teacher in Thailand (in some cases) but the salary is higher if you are a qualified teacher.
