Teach English To Eager Students in Greece!

  Greece

Length of Position: one to two weeks
Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: year round

Description: Teaching English: Explore northern Greece! Language skills are crucial to success in virtually any profession. At the invitation of local organizations, Global Volunteers provides English language instruction in public schools in this charming town. Many Greek students study English, but few have the chance to study with native English speakers. On some days, you'll meet your students for informal English language training. At other times, instructions may take the form of field trips, scavenger hunts, games or other organized events. Because conversational skills are emphasized over grammar, most native English speakers may be of service to this program.

Assisting Disabled Children and Youth: The residents of PIKPA KEPEP, an institution for the physically and mentally handicapped, are in desperate need for stimulation and attention. The director's goal is to engage them in outdoor activities to enrich their lives. In the future, the facility hopes to coordinate a day center where these residents and disabled children from the community can go on a regular basis. Our volunteers will play a major role in this important effort as plans develop. Volunteers are needed now to help move the children from the institution to outdoor locations for recreation, and to socialize with, sing to and stimulate them.

In addition, if you have experience with carpentry or painting, a few volunteers are needed to repair and paint the PIKPA KEPEP facility, which is in substantial disrepair and in need of a little loving care like its residents.

Highlights: Reach out in a demonstration of international concern and compassion. Two remarkable service programs enable you to put your humanitarian spirit to work directly with those who appreciate it the most. Either work with children and adults in classrooms, small groups and summer camps, or help disabled residents of a care facility. This is an excellent way to give back while experiencing the real Greece!

Qualifications: If you are a native English speaker, have energy to work with kids, an open mind, and are willing to serve as part of a team and take direction from local leaders, you will make a positive contribution to this exciting volunteer program.
