Teach English in Southern Italy!
Italy
Length of Position: one or two weeks
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks and 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: year round
Description:
Experience Italy as a volunteer! Our partnership with teachers and administrators in several small towns in the Pulia region puts you directly in touch with students on a daily basis. Volunteers help plan each day's work using English texts and established lesson plans, reviewing exercises the students have completed and will be studying in the near term. Volunteers also serve as resources on topics of American culture, including discussions on American history, lifestyles, sports and school systems. Some volunteers teach American songs and games while others provide instruction on continuing dialogues and writing letters.
Highlights:
As a lauded tourist destination, Italy exudes familiarity to international travelers. But what many tourists miss is a meaningful connection on a human level. Building relationships based upon mutual respect and seeing another country as a "non-tourist", this is the goal of the Global Volunteers Italy Program. In the afternoons and evenings, volunteers might share meals and conversation with teachers, students and their families. On the weekend, art enthusiasts can visit one or more of the many local churches showcasing magnificent paintings and sculptures. Among the nearby historic destinations, the brilliant coastline will lure nature lovers, while culture buffs can tour the Peninsula of Salento, sometimes called the 'Spur of Italy.
Qualifications:
If you are a native English speaker, have energy to work with kids, an open mind and are willing to serve as part of a team and take direction from local leaders, you will make a positive contribution to this exciting volunteer program. You need not have previous teaching experience.
