Teach English in Mexico as a Volunteer!
Mexico
- Central Highlands:
Dolores Hidalgo,
Queretaro
Length of Position: one to two weeks
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks and 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: year round
Description:
Experience Mexico as a "non-tourist." Volunteers practice English in small groups with university students. The focus is on English conversation, not grammar, so virtually anyone can be of service. Each class follows a syllabus and uses texts which guide the volunteers through daily lessons. Team members often add examples from their personal lives to liven up the conversations. As with all Global Volunteers' conversational English programs, each volunteer teaches four to six hours a day, using the remainder of the day to prepare for class and team meetings. Ample time is available to explore cultural and educational attractions in the host community.
Highlights:
You are immediately accepted and appreciated in our host communities as a rare and valuable resource in the local students' quest to gain greater English language proficiency. Dolores Hidalgo and Queretaro played major roles in Mexico's fight for independence and thus many historical sites are nearby. Some volunteers take a bus to San Miguel de Allende, while others shop in Leon or enjoy the numerous cultural attractions, including museums, shops and theaters. The universities offer a wide variety of options and sometimes volunteers are invited into local homes for tea and conversation.
Qualifications:
If you are a native English speaker, have an open mind, and are willing to serve as part of a team and take direction from local leaders, you will make a positive contribution to this exciting volunteer program. You need not have previous teaching experience.
