Increasing demand for English education in Korea has created fierce competition within the language school industry. Therefore, brand power, acquisition of a loyal customer base,and efficient management of franchised language schools are key elements to success. Educational Goals Sogang Language Program (SLP) is an English Education organization that Sogang University established for teaching English to children and adolescents. The educational objectives are based on the educational philosophy of Sogang University Like Sogang University, SLP intends to educate for the whole person; i.e., to provide all individuals with a well-balanced and inclusive education. Language is taught in such a manner as to bolster respects for human dignity and life, because education is the vehicle through which individuals learn to understand and appreciate the concepts of human kindness and justice. Thus, it is possible to cultivate men and women of talent who will contribute not only to Korean society, but also development of humanity.

Monthly salary is contingent upon qualifications and experience; basic salary range is from 1.8 to 2.2 million won. Working days a week: Monday Friday Teaching Hours: 1pm-9pm(M,W,F)/1pm-8:30pm(T,Th) Overtime payment: 30,000 won per session Class Size: Usually 4-11 Students: Kindergarten and elementary Starting Date: ASAP Housing: single furnished studio apartment (pictures available) Distance from apartment to school: 10 minute walk Vacation: 10-12 days + most nation holidays Number of foreign teachers: 6 Airfare - The Institute shall pay a round-trip airfare between the nearest International Airport from the Teacher's place of residence applied and a major city in Korea. - Round-trip airfare is provided only once. - A one-way ticket will be provided to Korea and at the end of one's contract a one-way ticket to the port of the departure will be provided. - The monthly salary is based on a calendar month, not on the monthly teaching session. Korean income tax, National Pension, and Medical Insurance will be deducted from the monthly salary. - The teacher's monthly salary varies according to his or her qualifications and experience. Severance Pay On completion of one's responsibilities of the full contract period, an additional month of regular salary per one year shall be paid as severance pay. If the Teacher, however, does not complete the full period of one year contract, none of the severance pay shall be paid. This is in accordance with Korean Labor Standard Law. Severance pay will be paid by bank transfer no later than one month after the Teacher has left the Institute. Korean severance tax will be withheld. Any outstanding debts owed by the teacher will be subtracted from the severance pay. Medical Insurance The Teacher will be covered by Korean National Health Insurance. According to the government guideline for teachers, the monthly insurance charge will be shared by the Institute and the Teacher. Coverage will be from the date of joining to Korean Medical Insurance Union, commencing approximately 3 to 4 weeks after the teacher's arrival in Korea, due to requirements of the immigration and taxation departments of Korea. Housing SLP will provide each teacher an apartment or a house to be shared with other teachers. A two-person apartment or house will be provided for a married couple, if both are teaching at SLP. The apartment will contain a TV, a refrigerator, a washing machine, wardrobes, a telephone, a gas range, beds, a desk, chairs, easy chairs, a dining table and chairs, and some eating and cooking utensils. National Pension Plan In accordance with Korean Law, all foreign workers employed by Korean businesses shall pay into the Korean National Pension Plan at a rate stipulated by the Korean National Pension Law, deducted against monthly earning with the employer's contribution. Refund of the National Pension : For a teacher who becomes a compulsorily insured employee, where the Pension Act of the teacher's home country provides the benefit corresponding to the lump-sum refund of the National Pension Plan, the lump-sum refund of this plan shall be paid to the teacher, according to Korean Law. Paid Sick Leave Documented sick leave and emergency leave will be paid for a combined total of five work days a year. The Teacher should provide the Institute with as much advance notice as possible. Unused sick leave may not be converted into any cash payment. If it is found that the hours or days of absence reported as sick leave or emergency leave were not in fact for such purposes, related costs shall be subtracted from the following month's pay. The above leaves will be included in the period of medical care compensation according to the Article 78 of Korean Labor Standard Law. Teacher Training The teacher shall have a period of training on SLP program and SLP system before starting to teach in SLP. The training is given on teaching methodology and practical teaching skills such as how to teach a lesson and how to utilize our supplemental aids and tools. The teacher will receive briefings from academic supervisor and will get acquainted with the living and teaching in Korea as well as settling into a new living environment. The teacher will have at least 21 classes (80 minutes each) per teaching week. The work week runs from Monday through Friday in monthly periods and will follow the yearly academic calendar issued by SLP Headquarters. The above vacation will be paid at the teachers normal rate according to articles 47 and 48 of Korean Labor Standard Law.
