We have a number of South African staff and one Canadian teacher so other staff would be welcome if experienced. Teachers with families would be difficult to consider currently as we have none of our 2 bedroom accommodation free at the present time.
Highlights:
Sharjah is one of the United Arab Emirates, directly adjacent to Dubai. More industrial than its neighbor, Dubai, Sharjah is also more affordable and more cultural. Indeed, many expatriates who work in Dubai live in Sharjah. Sharjah is definitely worth a look, however you should be aware that Sharjah is one of the more conservative emirate. There is a ban on alcohol and dress codes are very conservative, especially for women- women should avoid wearing short skirts and tight clothing but need not cover their hair. Also, unmarried couples are not technially allowed to live together in this emirate, as is the case in most Middle Eastern countries. Schools differ, however, on how strictly (or if) this code is enforced! What our teachers living in Sharjah say.. "The children are well behaved. Much less stress than teaching at home" "The part I like best is the cheaper lifestyle when compared to Dubai. As an added bonus, women don't have to stand in the queue at the post office!" "The central Souq and Almazer beach are pure utopia. In Sharjah you get a real insight into the old heritage of the UAE" "Western women can get stared at sometimes, but it's not meant to be threatening and you get used to it." "What do I wish I brought with me? More alcohol from duty free at the airport and my favourite crisps!"
