Description:
Small Progressive, International School in Gorgeous Locale Seeks Elementary Teachers: The Atitlan Multicultural Academy (AMA, "ah-mah", for short) seeks creative, dynamic elementary teachers who want to live on the shores of Lake Atitlan, the most beautiful lake in the world in the Mayan highlands of Guatemala. Elementary teachers will work with small, combined-classroom groups. Our kids' native languages include English, Spanish, French, Russian, German and Kaqchikel-Mayan! We stress an interactive classroom and a loving, fun approach to learning. Our small school (about 80-100 students total) goes from pre-kindergarten to the twelfth grade, and one of the most special elements is the interaction between older and younger students.
Highlights:
Panajachel is a safe, laid-back place to live with a low cost of living and a significant expatriate population. Its climate is lovely, and it combines the charm of a small, highland Mayan town with the comforts of a tourist destination (great, inexpensive restaurants; good international live music; fun night life). The town is a little over three hours from Guatemala City. The air is fresh, there's no McDonald's, and you almost never see a jet fly overhead. The local languages are Spanish and Kaqchikel-Mayan. Lake Atitlan is truly one of the planet's wonders--a breathtaking lake ringed by Mayan villages and flanked by three volcanoes. The school reflects the strong community and its values. We work together as a team in a pleasant, supportive, and non-corporate atmosphere. AMA teachers love their jobs, and AMA kids love school. Couples are welcome to apply--see our listing for Junior High and High School Math and Science teachers.
