Director of Music - Kenya

  Kenya
    Rural

Length of Position: 24 months

Description: We are an international co-ed boarding school 4 hours from Nairobi, in the beautiful highlands of Kenya . Founded in the 1930s we are well established, well respected school.

The school today has pupils from Kenya and East African surrounding countries, but also has a large ex-patriot population of students, many the sons and daughters of missionaries. There are few schools in a developing country that can produce music of the calibre of that at Turi.

The Director of Music will lead a team of musicians in the Senior School and liaise with the Director of Music in the Prep School. Several of the music staff teach instrumental lessons in both sections of the school. The successful applicant will be a gifted musician.

Highlights: It is important that s/he can contribute to Chapel music and support the worship life of the school which includes both traditional and modern Christian music. A person with a strong Christian faith is essential for this post. S/He will teach some or all of the class music (Years 9, 10 and 11), individual instrumental lessons and ABRSM theory.

Students are prepared for ABRSM practical and theory exams and results are very good.

Qualifications: Areas of strength must include piano playing and instrumental teaching and preferably choral leadership. The school is looking for additional expertise this year on the following instruments: piano, brass, woodwind (flute and saxophone), strings including cello, and voice two or more of which the Director of Music should be able to offer. Drive and initiative are essential.
