Description:
We want to incorporate qualified teachers for the 2009 and 2010 school years. Our school year runs from the end of February through the beginning of January of the following year. We are offering a minimum of two year contracts.
Highlights:
School Community: The majority of our students are native Spanish Speaker, mostly from Chile. Just some of them come from another countries, who are participating of the exchange program. Class Size: The classes have an average of 25 children, from Playgroup (3 years old) through Twelfth Grade (17 years old). Language: The main expat language of instruction from First Grade up to twelfth grade is English. These grades have about 10 hours of English per week. For grades Playgroup, Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten the main language of instruction is English, because about of the full language immersion programme. The main language of instruction for Second through Twelfth Grade is Spanish, with 7 hours a week of Lenguaje y Comunicación (Spanish). The majority of the parents speak Spanish, and some of them speak English. Weekly Hours: Teachers are paid for a 40 hours work week that ranges between the hours of 8 am-5 pm. All teachers are required to work 32 hours directly with students. Two hours a week are reserved for Staff Meetings, five hours are reserved for general coordination meetings, class planning or International Exam Workshops and one hour a week is reserved for Parent Interviews. Specific Duties: The specific duties of the teachers vary slightly depending on the level. * Playgroup-Kindergarten: Teachers are responsible for teaching the whole programme, due to The Chilean Pre-school curriculum. The Pre-school programme is done completely in English. Teachers are also responsible for some recess and lunch supervision. * First Grade- Fourth Grade: Teachers are responsible for teaching Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies, Art and Technology Education. * Ninth-Twelfth Grade: Teachers are responsible for developing oral language program. Other teachers teach Lenguaje y Comunicacion (Spanish), Music, Physicall Education and Religion. Teachers are also responsible for some recess supervision. Curriculum and Books: The school uses as support material for the teaching process for English/Language Arts, from Pre-Kinder to First Grade, Scott Foresman books and Express Publishing Books from Second Grade to Twelfth Grade.
Qualifications:
- Teaching certificate for the subject area valid through 2010. - Bachelor of Education . - ESL/TOEFL certification in addition to the teaching certificate a plus but not required. - Experience preferred. - Spanish language ability a plus but not required. - An openness to and interest in living and working in a new culture and community. - Physical and mental exam.

Salary / Pay: Salary: All salaries are in US dollars after taxes * 0 years of experience Year One 1,200 USD a month Year Two 1,300 USD a month plus 1,200 Bonus + plane fare upon completion of contract *1-3 years of experience Year One 1,300 USD a month Year Two 1,400 USD a month plus 1,200 Bonus + plane fare upon completion of contract * 4-5 years of experience Year One 1,400 USD a month Year Two 1,500 USD a month plus $1,200 Bonus + plane fare upon completion of contract * 6+ years of experience Year One 1,500 USD a month Year Two 1,600 USD a month plus 1,200 Bonus + plane fare upon completion of contract Any person not honoring their contract will be paid up until the last day worked. Benefits: The school will provide: - A work visa (you will enter the country on a tourist visa, and then your visa status will be changed once you sign a formal contract with the school and begin the application process for a work visa). - A health care package that covers both health and dental- coverage begins 1 month after the signing of the contract. - A room in a shared apartment with 2 to 3 other teachers. Teachers are responsible for paying their own water, electricity, gas, phone/cable and internet bills. - The return flight upon the completion of the contract. Other Sources of Income: While most teachers find the salary is more than adequate to live on, there are many opportunities to earn extra money after school hours. E.G. Private classes after work (not to members to our community), translations, etc.

School History:
Antonio Rendic School is a private school and it was founded in 1997. It has excellent facilities and it is located in a privileged place of Antofagasta, Chile (South America), in the south part of the city and in front of the Pacific Ocean.
Its name, Antonio Rendic, is in honour of a well-known Croatian philanthropist, who was a humanist and supportive doctor and lived in Antofagasta.
Most of our community members practice Catholicism.
Our Educational Project prioritizes the social-cognitive curriculum, with an emphasis on value encouragement education and capacities and specific abilities development. The Twelfth graders have as main expectation the admission into the formal further education.
