Description:
The Teacher's Assistant program in Argentina provides the opportunity to be an assistant to a teacher, teach English at a language school and live with an Argentine family. Participants also have the opportunity to take courses at the local universities as well as go on a variety of field trips and social activities. While working in a private institution and part time in a rural or state school, participants spend the majority of their time interacting orally in English with students. Typically a day is anywhere from 4 to 7 hours. This program in offered in a number of locations around Argentina: Posadas, Misiones in the north-eastern corner of country; San Juan, the capital city of the province of San Juan in the Cuyo region; San Miguel de Tucuman located in the northwest of the country; and Chilecito, La Rioja located 200 km west of the capital city of La Rioja. Other possible options included: Avellaneda (Sante Fe), Catamarca, Cordoba, Comodoro Rivadavia (Chubut), General Pico (La Pampa), La Rioja, Mar del Plata (Province of Buenos Aires), Mendoza, Neuquen, Resistencia (Chaco), Rosario (Santa Fe), San Salvador and San Pedro (Jujuy), Salta, San Luis, Santa Fe, San Rafael (Mendoza), and Tandil (Province of Buenos Aires). Volunteer activities may include: * Assist appointed teachers in their daily tasks in teaching English. * Help with language phonetics and cultural studies. * Organize conversational workshops. * Help in tasks such as co-teaching following guidelines provided beforehand * Organize and participate in extra curricular outings in English such as picnics, visits to museums, etc. Give one or 2 talks per month on relevant cultural aspects of their home country or any other topic of their knowledge (subject to approval), depending on the qualifications offered, which has been researched and/or prepared at home. * Assist with the promotion of educational exchange programs abroad * Interview students to prepare them for specific exams, other cultural and "fun" activities proposed by volunteer.
Qualifications:
Participants must be native English speakers. A background in education is helpful.

Typical Volunteer: Almost all of GeoVisions' programs are open to everyone and this project in particular does not require certain skills or degrees. No matter what you believe your skill level to be, you will have something meaningful and helpful to offer at this very important project. GeoVisions is dedicated to providing a meaningful placement for anyone willing to volunteer, and we believe that the only skills required for most international volunteering is a willingness to learn and an open mind.
