Description: In a region of the world where children with special educational needs are often hidden, Kuwait, and indeed this school are at the forefront of enlightened education. This is a bi-lingual school located in the affluent area of Kuwait to the Kuwait Towers, the symbol of this tiny oil rich nation. The school caters for a student population of 1500, across the complete age range, 83% of whom are local Kuwaitis. The school operates an American bi-lingual curriculum that sets a level balance to offer the best of Western teaching practices and technologies to prepare students for a global community as well as promoting the very fabric and traditions of the Kuwaiti heritage and culture. Want to explore this region of the world in a welcoming country where you can get invited to a local's house for dinner and find out how Kuwaitis really live? This is the kind of opportunity you are looking for.

The word model was incorporated into the title as a symbol of integration for special needs students who require differentiation in the way they learn, alongside regular classes. Thus, as well as paving the way for students to graduate in the normal way with an American High School Diploma, through its Learning Support Units and Resource Inclusion programs assist those with a learning difficulty to achieve the same goal. Indeed special educational needs are a large focus and 16.66% of the students have been diagnosed with a teaching differentiation need (Usually learning delays- not behavioural issues). The school is divided into elementary, middle and high school.

An attractive part of the campus is the elementary department, a charming collection of classrooms, open air balcony style corridors and facilities located around palm fringed court yards and communal areas as the above photographs show, boasting a calm atmosphere of quiet and studious activity in bright and colourful rooms. The middle school is a little bleaker in appearance, a two storey building located around a central play area, but once again the atmosphere is typical of an international school. The senior students have been relocated to a brand new facility at the Middle School campus, an impressive building full of pristine classrooms, facilities and furniture. The school also has extensive grounds and playing fields between the elementary school and the middle and high schools. There is a large astro-turf football pitch and a great swimming pool. Tree and bush line walkways connect the campuses making for a pleasant environment for study and work. Other facilities are consistent with what you would expect of a school of this nature.

Highlights: When Iraqi troops were driven out in early 1991 and reconstruction work began in the ruins of Kuwait City, the government quickly became obsessed with meticulously re-creating the country's pre-invasion appearance - right down to the pink marble steps at the entrance to Kuwait City's leading five-star hotel. With the war a fading memory, Kuwait is once again the prototypical oil state, and travellers looking for a relaxed entry into the Muslim world can expect their share of mosques, souks and other sandy traces of bygone Bedouin days.
Kuwait has a thriving population of teachers and workers from all over the world. A 'dry' country, ex-pat teachers can find a lively ex-pat social network with plenty of sports and social clubs including rugby, sailing and horse riding, swimming on beautiful beaches as well as travel opportunities on the doorstep of Africa and the Middle East. With enterprising shopkeepers selling everything to brew your own beer and wine right next to each other on the supermarket shelves, Kuwait is a place for teachers who are adventurous and willing to make their own fun whilst earning a good salary in a country that is investing heavily in education.
