Teach at International Christian School in Pyongtaek, Korea
South Korea
- All Other Areas:
Pyeongtaek
Description:
ICS - Pyongtaek is located in the city of Pyongtaek which is approximately 50 miles south of the city of Seoul. The Pyongtaek area has been chosen by the US military to be a "hub" location for Korea and the school is close to Osan Air Force Base and Camp Humphries Army Base. The school's proximity to these military installations impacts school enrollment and approximately 40% of the students have parents who work for defense-related companies. The city of Pyongtaek has a population of approximately 400,000 people and is steadily increasing in size. The climate in Pyongtaek is typically hot and humid in the summer months (June to August) with temperatures of 80-90 degrees. In the winter months (December to February) temperatures are between 20-35 degrees. The dry winter climate limits the amount of snowfall to less than 6-8 inches per year. The weather in spring and fall is usually moderate and comfortable. The school operates off of standard American type curriculum. ICS is on a regular American-style calendar with school starting in late August and ending in early June. All faculty members are expected to model Biblical standards of faith, Christian living, and spiritual growth to the students both inside and outside the classroom. Students will be challenged to make their own personal commitments of faith in Jesus Christ and to take steps toward spiritual growth. ICS - Pyongtaek is looking for individuals who have an enthusiasm and passion for Jesus Christ. Second only to their passion for Christ should be their passion for the profession of teaching. They must love working closely with their peers and they should enjoy forming strong, personal relationships with their students. People not ready to invest themselves in their own spiritual growth, the profession of teaching, their peers, and their students should not apply.
Highlights:
All NICS schools are accredited by accrediting associations in the States. Therefore, our schools use American curriculum and follow the American calendar. We use a variety of American-based curricula. Each of the NICS schools has an administrator and curriculum committee that determines the best curriculum and resources for their school. Just like schools in the United States, the amount of resources depends on the size of the school. We prefer teachers who have classroom experience, at the minimum: student teaching. While most mission organizations require a teacher to have at least two years experience, NICS is willing to invest the time and effort to help you get that experience. In return, we get energetic teachers with a teachable spirit and a willingness to learn. Final decisions regarding staff placement are made by the school's administrator. Salary depends on the school and the location. NICS has three basic types of schools, Pioneer (Start up), Transitional (Becoming an International school) and International (Established). While each school has different positive aspects that make it unique, the Pioneer and Transitional may require the raising of some support and the International schools will provide a salary. The salary is one that will allow you to live comfortably in that country. By comfortable we mean able to cover all living expenses (Apartment, utilities, clothing, food and able to go out to eat a couple of times each week and still be able to save enough money to come home for Christmas or travel during the summer break).
