Description:
DREAM is seeking certified teachers to work as literacy and math coaches in our 7th Annual Guzman Ariza DREAM Summer School and Camp, a five week program for at-risk children, aged 10-16. The summer camp offers educational support through experiential learning, specialized educational and individualized tutoring programs to students who are at risk of dropping out. The Professional Development Coaches will work closely with local Dominican public school teachers in planning and providing support in student-centered strategies and hands-on exploration. In particular, we need coaches in literacy, math and science. The coaches will teach model classes, facilitate professional development workshops and plan closely with pairs of local Dominican teachers to allow local schools to develop hands-on learning activities that can be replicated throughout the school year.
Highlights:
Spend your week making a difference in the lives of Dominican at-risk youth, while having the weekends free for kite boarding or windsurfing on the beach, visiting historic cities, or learning more about the lifestyles of the locals.
Qualifications:
Expectations: DREAM volunteers are expected to work Monday through Friday from 8-4:30 for the duration of camp. Volunteers will also be responsible for planning activities and lessons, assisting with teacher training workshops, and assisting with special projects. Requirements: * Experience working with children * Spanish skills: medium-strong * Teacher Certification * 18 years of age or older Looking for certified reading, writing, math, and ESL teachers, and those with an interest in music, art, dance, computers or health. Experience working in the restaurant, travel, or hospitality industries is appreciated as a major part of our adolescent program focuses on these professional fields.
