TEFL Jobs in Czech Republic

  Czech Republic
    Prague

Length of Position: 9 to 12 months
Dates: Open

Description: The capital, Prague, has become a popular travel hot-spot offering snowy winters and pleasant summers to its visitors. Recently, it has developed a reputation as a premium TEFL destination, so TEFL students expect the most from their teachers. Whilst most language institutes will request previous teaching experience, our agents can help you find work whether you have past experience or not!

1. How much will I be paid?
20,000 Czech Koruna (USD 1,020) per month based on a 25 hour week. For good teachers pay per hour can increase and there could be the opportunity to work up to 35 hours per week. Tax of 15% - 25% will be payable locally, dependent on earnings.

It is recommended that teachers share an apartment close to the centre in a nice location such as Letna or Vinohrady (approximately 7-15 minutes by metro or tram). The price here is around 6,000 CZK per month for a private room in a shared house (a deposit may be required). Accommodation in the city centre is more expensive. The cost of living after rent should generally be 9,000 CZK (USD 420) per month although this will, of course, depend on your lifestyle.

For transportation, most teachers purchase a monthly pass for 460 CZK. This pass allows you to travel freely around the city on any form of transportation. As a teacher you can expect to be on the public transport system several times a day making the monthly pass worth the expense.

Most Internet cafes cost around 25 CZK per 15 minutes. Groceries are inexpensive, and in most restaurants an average meal, including a beer, costs about 150 CZK. It is interesting to note that a small glass of soda is typically more expensive than a big glass of excellent beer!

2. Do I receive a bonus or flight re-imbursement?
There is no bonus or flight reimbursement.

3. How many holiday days will I receive per year?
No paid holidays are provided with this contract. If you wish to take an unpaid holiday you should give at least 1 week notice and if you would like to take a longer holiday (e.g. 2 weeks or more) please try to give 1 month notice. There is a shut-down over all bank holidays. For Christmas, usually from Dec 22nd - Jan 3rd but very often a longer break can be arranged with the school (usually Dec 20th - Jan 5th), for Easter it is the date of Bank Holiday + 1-2 days.

4. What are my working hours?
Your teaching contract will be for 25 hours per week. Classes are held at the school between 7:20am and 8:30pm, usually Monday to Friday. However, most classes take place in the afternoon and early evening.

5. How does the recruitment process work?
Send required documents to i-to-i. Once documents have been sent to the in-country partner, you will receive a confirmation email with contact details for the partner. Our partner will contact you for a telephone interview. If you are successful, they will look for suitable teaching positions, arrange interviews for you with potential employers and advise you when to travel to the Czech Republic. You will travel to the Czech Republic for face to face interview(s). If successful you will sign a contract with the school you will be teaching at and you can start teaching immediately. Applicants from USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand will be helped by the school to obtain the documents needed to apply for a work visa at the closest embassy.

6. Can I renew my contract?
Your contract may be extendable; you would need to discuss this with your school.

7. What happens if I need to break my contract?
You should give 1 month notice if you wish to break your contract.

8. Who is my contract with?
The contract you sign will be with the language school or institute that you will be teaching at, not with i-to-i or with our overseas partner.

9. What visa do I need?
Our in-country partner will advise on the visa process and requirements for this
