CIEE welcomes our newest program - Teach in the Dominican Republic. Just as the new year and winter sets in, you could be heading south for a new start in the DR. Immerse yourself in a fun-loving culture, perfect your Spanish, learn the merengue, and gain a rich international working experience! This government-sponsored program provides you the opportunity to teach English to Dominican university-age students with CIEE.

* Pre-departure school placement at reputable institution * Paid teaching position * Support of CIEE professional staff before you depart for the DR * Teaching guides, program guides, and teaching materials to help you plan and prepare for the classroom * A Lonely Planet guidebook to plan your travels * Airport transfer on designated arrival date * Two-day on-site orientation with CIEE - Lessons on negotiating Dominican culture - Accommodations and most meals - Workshops with current/past teachers for the program - Introduction to the ministry of Education - Sightseeing trips in and around Santo Domingo * Two week-long orientation with the Ministry of Higher Education - Introduction to program and locations - Intensive EFL course - Curriculum introduction - Immersion concept introduction * Housing assistance * International medical insurance and 24-hour worldwide assistance provided through the CIEE iNext travel card * 24-hour in-country emergency support services from local CIEE staff * Visa advice Program Specifics * School levels: Post-secondary age * School locations: 16 cities throughout the country * Typical teaching load: 20 hour work week (Additional time may be necessary for planning and preparing) * Contracts: One Year: mid-January and run through mid-December Orientation Teach in the Dominican Republic will provide you with a two day in-country orientation led by CIEE to prepare you for a successful jump into the Dominican culture and workforce! Highlights include *Lessons on negotiating Dominican culture *Accommodations and most meals *Workshops with current/past teachers for the program *Introduction to the ministry of Education *Sightseeing trips in and around Santo Domingo This orientation is followed by a two week orientation run by the Ministry of Higher Education and Programa de Ingles de Inmersion para la Competicion. Location Classes are held in the morning, afternoon, and night at universities, institutes, and centers run by the SEESCyT in 16 cities throughout the country. There are some placements in the metro areas of Santiago and Santo Domingo, however, the goal of the program is to bring language learning opportunity to those who have not been able to study foreign language. Therefore, most of the teaching locations will find you in the smaller cities of the Dominican Republic where you will have the opportunity to polish your Spanish, interact with the locals, and make new friends! Qualifications:
You do not need to be a teacher with extensive international experience to apply! Whether your major was art history, zoology, or anything in between; if you have a good attitude and solid work ethic, your academic background will serve you well in the classroom - this time from the teacher's side of the desk. CIEE is looking for well-rounded applicants who are independent, adventurous, and who adapt well to new situations. Participants must be able to expect the unexpected and thrive in a changing environment! It's essential that participants are self-motivated, responsible and recognize that their first priority is to their school and their teaching assignment. 110% commitment to the program is essential. * Bachelor's degree in any major * Native English language fluency * TEFL certificate or significant ESL teaching experience * Upper-Intermediate Spanish language ability * Flexible, positive attitude with a desire to teach and learn in an immersive program * Preference for language teaching or education majors in secondary or tertiary level Education, Psychology, Latin American Studies, or Cultural Studies
